Indore, Madhya Pradesh— Woman Stripped, Paraded and Beaten Up By Four Women Belonging To Same Community, Propagandists Circulate Casteist Claims: Fact-Check 

A video of a group of women tormenting a defenceless woman has gone viral and is being portrayed as a hate crime based on caste because it emphasises the victim’s caste identification. It is being claimed that the lower caste woman was beaten, stripped and paraded naked publicly in Madhya Pradesh.

Verified accounts on twitter, including @ambedkariteIND tweeted “#Horrific A 30-year-old Dalit woman was stripped and paraded naked publicly in Gautampura village of Madhya Pradesh, 4 people arrested.” on March 27, 2024. The tweet has received an about 77.3k views on X.

Several other accounts, including @MDLiyakath4 made the same claim that the Dalit woman was stripped naked publicly in Madhya Pradesh. It has been portrayed that this is a religion based hate crime. @subhajit_n made the same claim and retweeted the tweet made by @ambedkariteIND and wrote “State of dalit woman in Madhya Pradesh under BJP.” . Even @dayakamPR retweeted the same tweet of @ambedkariteIND to support the same claim. The user wrote “Day by day we are becoming inhuman and moving towards stone age. What is the Actual Truth About this Incident? : Fact

The truth is that hate crimes and this occurrence are unrelated. Four women reportedly beat up, stripped down, and paraded a thirty-year-old lady following a fight in a village in the Indore area of Madhya Pradesh. In addition to the four accused women’s arrests, additional actions are being implemented. Both the accused and the victim are members of the scheduled caste (SC) category.

We visited The Print, which published an article on this incident on March 27, 2024 with the headline “Woman stripped, paraded and beaten up in MP village; four females held”. A 30-year-old woman was allegedly beaten, stripped, and paraded by four women during a fight in a village in the Indore district of Madhya Pradesh, according to police. One of the accused believed the victim was making up her mother-in-law’s animosity towards her. According to the police officer, she also suspected that the victim had transported her mother-in-law to Mandsaur without telling her. He noted that both the accused women and the victim are members of the Scheduled Caste (SC) group. At the time of the occurrence, the victim woman was pleading for mercy, but the accused refused to listen and publicly undressed her by tearing her clothes. In the same state, they drove her a short way on the village’s common road. According to the police officer, a case has been filed under sections 323 (voluntarily causing harm), 354-A (sexual harassment), and 452 (wrongfully restraining and assaulting) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

The truth is that hate crimes have nothing to do with this situation. In a village in the Indore area of Madhya Pradesh, four women reportedly beat up, stripped, and paraded a thirty-year-old lady after a quarrel. The four accused women have all been placed under arrest, and more steps are in the works. The scheduled caste (SC) category includes both the accused and the victim.
