Old Image Of Massive Artillery Drill From North korea Falsely Linked to Iran-Israel Conflict: Fact-Check

Some have circulated a photograph purporting to show Iran preparing for war with Israel, showing massive artillery.

@USGeneralLinda tweeted “#Iran has placed its entire military on full high alert. Donald Trump calls on Israel to end its war in Gaza. Because another genocide is coming, Iran and Israel will hit each other” on April 6, 2024. The tweet has received an about more than 6k views on X.

Several other accounts, including @ownthoughts_24 made the same claim that the image shows Iran’s preparation for war against Israel. The archive can be read from above.

What is the Actual Truth About this Incident? : Fact

In actuality, this is an old North Korean photo of large-caliber self-propelled guns set up on a beach for a military drill. It is unrelated to the confrontation between Israel and Iran. We visited defense-aerospace.com, which published an article on this incident on May 12, 2017 with the headline “North Korea Crisis – Which Country Has the Strongest Military in the Region?”. The same circulated picture was posted with the caption “North Korean artillery deployed on a beach earlier this month in a massive if rather pointless show of the North Korean army’s firepower. (NK govt photo)”. For further clarification, we also went to CNN, which also posted about this in an article on April 25, 2017 with the heading “North Korea marks anniversary with massive artillery drill”. North Korea has held its greatest military drill to commemorate the founding of the country’s army, amidst escalating tensions with the West. The South Korean military said in a statement that live-fire exercises were held in the Wonsan region in the country’s east on, but it did not specify what weapons or military units took part in the drill. The picture was shared with the caption “Live fire drills took place in Wonsan, North Korea, to mark the 85th anniversary of the Korean People’s Army founding, according to North Korean State Media.”

An image that features a massive artillery has been shared, claiming to be of Iran’s preparation for war against Israel. The reality is that this is an old North Korean photo of self-propelled guns with big calibre  being used on a beach during a military drill. The war between Israel and Iran is unrelated to it.

Conclusion:

Fact : The fact is that this is an old image from North Korea showing large-caliber self-propelled guns deployed on a beach during a military drill. It has nothing to do with the Iran-Israel conflict.
