A few days ago, a girl committed suicide in Noida, Uttar Pradesh, Users made claim that she was murdered and thrown out from a moving car. The tragic incident was reported from Greater Noida, which has led to widespread misinformation on social media platforms. Initial reports claimed that a girl’s dead body was thrown out of a moving car, few stories even claimed that she was raped and physically assaulted, sparking outrage and shock among netizens. However, a closer examination of the facts by the police paints a different picture.
Handles known for their critical stances against the UP Government, such as @surendra19741, @Monuyad91794834, @AdvRaviGautam, and @JantantraTv, were among those prominent accounts spreading misleading information. Smaller social media accounts also contributed to the spread of this misinformation, possibly seeking attention within social media. Most of them blamed the Noida Police for their ignorance, etc.
After the misleading claims got spread on social media, Gautam Buddh Police Commisionarate swiftly came forward and through a tweet, they clarified that the initial claims were inaccurate. CCTV footage revealed that the girl was not thrown out of the car as initially reported. Instead, the footage showed her arriving alone at a rented house on the second floor, which was later identified as the residence of the accused, Santosh.
The investigation brought to light that the girl and the accused were friends and had a fight. Tragically, during this dispute, the girl jumped from the roof of the second floor, resulting in severe injuries. Contrary to misleading claims of rape and murder, the post-mortem report did not confirm any sort of sexual or physical assault. The cause of death was determined to be shock and bleeding due to severe injuries sustained during the fall. This finding dispels the inaccurate information being circulated on social media platforms.
Following the incident, police registered charges against four individuals under relevant sections based on the FIR filed by the deceased girl’s relatives. The primary accused, Santosh, and the deceased girl were classmates and had a prior connection. Santosh was taken to a hospital for treatment after the incident. While an accused individual is under police custody and is being interrogated, efforts are underway to apprehend other suspects involved.
