G-20 Summit 2023: Old Image Of Covered Houses From Mumbai Resurfaces as Recent From Delhi

A few days ago, people circulated images of houses next to the road covered with banners of G20 India and Green Shade Net. Many propaganda accounts such as @CongressMykkudy, @Janpratinidhi, @mannu_meha and @vijaythottathil shared these images claiming to be from Delhi. However, we found that these images are from Mumbai, where the authorities covered the houses in December-January. These particular images are not recent, although beautifications and a few moderations for the G20 Summit Delhi are going on in the capital city.

The Truth Behind the Images

India formally took over the presidency of the G-20 summit on December 1. Delegates of G-20 countries are visiting many cities in the country for the summit. India has made many preparations to make this summit a hit. Meanwhile, some such pictures have also come to the fore which is surprising.

In the month of last December, representatives of G-20 countries reached Mumbai for the summit. During this time, people revealed pictures of Mumbai slums covered with curtain walls. The authorities covered the slum area in such a way that no one could even see it. According to an NDTV report, people saw such curtains in areas ranging from Mahim, Worli, Bandra to Borivali. People living in these areas said that they had never seen such cleanliness here before.

Significance of G20 India

The significance of India’s G20 Presidency lies in its role as a premier forum for international economic cooperation representing around 85% of global GDP, over 75% of global trade, and about two-thirds of the world population. The presidency does not offer any formal power to the host nation but it does present an opportunity to influence the collective economic agenda of some of the most powerful and influential nations in the world. This may give India a chance to turn discussions towards its preferred direction and further its own economic agenda. India will have an opportunity to solve some pressing global problems and boost its significance on the global stage.

This year, the G20 Leaders Summit 2023 is scheduled to be held in New Delhi, India on September 9th and 10th. The summit will be hosted at the state-of-the-art Bharat Mandapam Convention Centre at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi.
