A video depicting lightning striking a mountain-like structure has been circulating on social media, claiming that it was filmed in Himachal Pradesh, India. However, D-Intent Data has determined that this is actually an old video of lightning bolt strikes Volcán de Fuego in Guatemala.
Sharing the video on X ( Formerly Twitter) an account @GoHimachal_ has said. “You will see this scene in Bijlee Mahadev Kullu, Himachal Pradesh”
Another account @mainRiniti has also shared the video and wrote. There is a temple in Himachal Pradesh where lightning strikes every 12 years. This temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, where the Shivling gets shattered after lightning strikes. Not only this, the Pandits here make the Shivling with a special paste.

The truth about the viral video of lightning bolt strikes, Fact Check
As soon as the posts containing the video came to our notice, we conducted research and found that this was an old video from Guatemala.
To verify the claims made by the users, we did a reverse image search of some key frames from the viral video on Google which led us to several media reports containing the same visuals.
According to the reports(cbsnews, smithsonianmag), this video is from Guatemala showing lightning striking an erupting volcano. The incident was captured in Volcán de Fuego in April 2024.
Hence, it is evident from D-Intent Data’s Fact Check that the viral video is not from Himachal Pradesh, India but an old incident from Guatemala.
