Posts circulating online claim that Russian President Vladimir Putin specially met Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Army Chief Asim Munir despite strong opposition from India. Some even allege that Putin called Pakistan a “great friend” while disregarding Indian concerns. In reality, these claims are false and fabricated, as no evidence suggests India opposed the meeting or that Putin ignored such objections.
Propaganda accounts as @TacticalTribun, circulated posts claiming that Russian President Vladimir Putin specially met Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Army Chief Asim Munir despite India’s opposition. They further alleged that Putin referred to Pakistan as a “great friend,” disregarding objections from India.

@MuhammadAli_PhD and @HamdanWahe57839 Both amplified the same false narrative, alleging that Putin called Pakistan a “great friend” while disregarding India’s objections.

Truth: Putin–Sharif Meeting Was Bilateral, No Mention of India’s Opposition
As this claim gained traction, it drew our attention. The D-Intent Data Team investigated using reverse image search and credible sources. Our findings led us to the official Kremlin website, which contains the full transcript of the bilateral meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. The transcript confirms that the discussions focused on bilateral relations, trade, energy, agriculture, steel, transport, and regional connectivity projects.
PM Shehbaz Sharif, in his remarks, acknowledged Russia’s longstanding ties with India and explicitly stated:
“I know and I must say that we respect your relationship with India – that is perfectly fine – but we also want to build very strong relations.”
At no point did Putin or Sharif mention India’s “opposition” to the meeting, nor did Putin describe Pakistan as a “great friend” in disregard of India. Instead, both leaders emphasized mutual cooperation and future plans to strengthen trade and connectivity.

The meeting has also been covered widely in credible outlets such as:
DRM News – Full remarks of the bilateral talks.
ANI News – Highlighted Sharif’s statement respecting Russia-India ties.
Geo News English – Broadcasted the meeting live.

All sources confirm that the engagement was a standard diplomatic bilateral meeting, not an act of defiance against India.
