Fact-Check: Video Falsely Claims Moon Landing Was Filmed on Movie Set

A video showing a group of people appearing to film a movie, followed by visuals of NASA’s moon landing, is being circulated with the false implication that the moon landing was faked. These claims suggest that mankind’s greatest achievement was actually staged on a Hollywood set. In reality, the initial part of the video contains footage from the shooting of the movie First Man and has no connection to the actual moon landing.

An influencer, @BGatesIsaPyscho, posted this clip claiming, “Mankind’s Greatest Ever Achievement was actually created on a Hollywood Movie Set – so now you know.”

Truth: Moon Landing Footage Misrepresented Using Movie Clips

As the false claim gained traction on social media, it drew our attention. The D-Intent Data Team conducted a detailed frame-by-frame investigation and keyword research. Our investigation led us to the IMAX YouTube channel, which posted First Man IMAX® Behind the Frame. The video shows the filming process for the movie First Man, including sets and production visuals.

These clips were repurposed in the viral post to falsely suggest that the 1969 moon landing was staged. The initial footage is entirely unrelated to NASA’s actual mission, and there are no credible sources supporting the claim that the moon landing was faked.

Intent:

Influencers are circulating movie shooting videos without providing the actual information to set their narrative to get the spotlight on social media.
