Fact Check: Portuguese football player Cristiano Ronaldo converted to Islam? No, the video is AI-generated

A video has been circulating online that appears to show Portuguese football star Cristiano Ronaldo engaging in Islamic religious practices alongside a group of people, with some claims suggesting that he has converted to Islam.  However, D-Intent Data has detected that the video was AI-generated, nothing to do with reality.

Sharing the video on X (Formerly Twitter), @MR_COOL77777 wrote. The world’s greatest footballer Ronaldo, has accepted Islam? A video of him offering Namaaz goes viral. ( Translated from Hindi).

Another account @HASSU_78601 wrote, “The world’s most famous footballer Cristiano Ronaldo offering Namaaz. Islam is a plant which the more you prune it. the more it will spread”

Several other users and Influencers have also disseminated the video and made similar claims. Their posts can be seen here, @EdShakil43454, @Zubair99778, @ShakurAli189357, @story_of_every_

The truth about the viral video, Fact Check

As soon as the posts containing the video and claims came to our notice. Subsequently, we conducted research and analysis of the video and found that the video was not real but an AI-generated video.

To verify the claims made by the users. We performed a reverse image search of some key frames from the viral video on Google Lens. This led us to an Instagram post containing the same visuals. The post was made by an Indonesian account named Agi Sutiagi (@agi_takagi) who is a graphic designer.

Upon visiting his Instagram account timeline, we found multiple AI-generated videos depicting Cristiano Ronaldo and Argentine footballer Lionel Messi involved in different activities. Also, no credible sources suggest that Cristiano Ronaldo has converted to Islam.

Therefore, it is evident from D-Intent Data‘s Fact Check and verified sources that the video was AI-generated and the claims are false and self-invented.

Intent

Social media users, influencers and propagandists are circulating AI-generated videos of Cristiano Ronaldo with misleading claims to set their narrative based on religion.
