The truth behind the claims, Fact Check

As soon as the posts containing the information and claims came to our notice. Subsequently, we conducted research and analysis regarding the claims and found that the information was not true.

To verify the claims made by the users and media outlets. We performed a relevant keyword search and found statements from the Russian embassy in Sri Lanka and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Sri Lanka.

The Russian embassy in Sri Lanka stated. “The Embassy noticed the misleading article regarding Sri Lanka’s bid for BRICS membership which was published in the “Sunday Island” on November 09, 2024.

The Embassy would like to highlight that Sri Lanka has applied to join BRICS. The Russian BRICS Chairship welcomed Sri Lanka’s interest. Its application will be considered by BRIC in due course in full consultation and consensus along with bids of numerous other countries who have also applied. The local media reports that Sri Lanka’s application has been rejected are wrong.”
