Fact Check: Video of Chinese Lantern Festival celebrations falsely shared as Holi celebration 

A video showing a street scene with firecrackers releasing colorful smoke is being shared with the claim that Hindus are celebrating Holi in China. However, the truth is that this video is from the Chinese Lantern Festival celebrations. Not related to Holi celebrations.

Sharing the video on X (Formerly Twitter), propaganda account @HPhobiaWatch wrote, “This is how Hindus in China celebrate Holi. While considering one particular group mentally ill.” Later, he deleted the post. 

Another account, @Hindustan_Meri1, also shared the video and wrote, “This is how Hindus in China celebrate Holi. While considering one particular group mentally ill all.”

Several other users and Influencers have also disseminated the video and made similar claims. Their posts can be seen here: @VipinKu72230626, @lordvishalkumar, @ShikhaT3617572.

The truth about the video shared as Holi in China, Fact Check 

As soon as the posts containing the video and claims came to our notice. Subsequently, we conducted research and analysis of the video. We found that the video was related to Chinese Lantern Festival celebrations, not Holi.

To verify the claims made by the users. We performed a reverse image search of some keyframes from the viral video using Google Lens. This led us to initial posts (1, 2) on different social media platforms containing the same visuals. According to the posts, the video was from the Chinese Lantern Festival celebrations. 

The Lantern Festival is observed on the 15th day of the first lunar month, marking the conclusion of Chinese New Year (Spring Festival) celebrations. In 2025, it was celebrated on February 12.

Therefore, it is evident from D-Intent Data’s Fact Check that the video was not related to Holi celebrations in China.
