Maldivian Accounts Circulated Image Of Le Bora-Bora Island From French Polynesia To Promote Maldives: Fact-Check 

A post purporting to be from the Maldives shows different resorts and a stunning sunset view.

Verified accounts on twitter, including Maaiz Mahmood (“@Maaix4“) tweeted “Sun set in Maldives. You won’t see this in Lakshadweep #VisitMaldives CC: @narendramodi @fa_luck7 @Narsimha_dev” after sharing the picture. The tweet was made on Jan 6, 2024, which has received an about 157.5k views on X.

What is the Actual Truth About this Incident? : Fact

According to our research, the shared photo is of the French Polynesian resort Le Bora-Bora by Pearl Resort. It is unrelated to the Maldives.

The photo is even attached in booking.com website in the pictures section of the Le Bora-Bora by Pearl Resort.

After seeing the tourism growth on #Lakshadweep in India frustrated accounts from foreign countries targeted India by sharing images with false claims. An image featuring resorts and a beautiful sunset view has been shared, claiming to be from Maldives. After proper research, analysis and fact-checking, we have discovered that Le Bora-Bora by Pearl Resort, located in French Polynesia, is the subject of the shared photo. The Maldives is unrelated to it.

Conclusion:

Fact : Le Bora-Bora by Pearl Resort, located in French Polynesia, is the location of the shared image, we found. Regarding the Maldives, it is  not at all related.
