There are rumours going around that the Indian government allocated ₹770 Cr in Budget 2024 for a tourism revival in the Maldives.

Verified accounts on twitter, including Congress Kerala (“@INCKerala“) tweeted “Modiji has a big heart. He increased the allocations for Maldives tourism development from 400 Cr to 770 Cr even after getting insulted. The celebrities who boycotted Maldives to please the emperor look like clowns.” on Feb 1, 2024. The tweet has received an about more than 7k views on X.

Several other accounts, including @Politics_2022_ made the same claim that the Indian government allotted ₹770 Cr for Maldives tourism revival in Budget 2024. The archive can be read from above.

What is the Actual Truth About this Incident? : Fact

The truth is that this is development assistance for the Maldives, not tourism revival. The budget estimate for Maldives’ developmental assistance in 2023-24 was Rs 400 crore, and the revised estimate is Rs 770.90 crore. India’s estimated development assistance to the Maldives for 2024-25 is Rs 600 crore.
