Prime Minister Narendra Modi Supports Ballot Paper-based Voting System in the Viral Video? Fact-Check

It is being claimed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is in favour of a voting system utilising ballot paper on a brief video clip of his speech from the 2016 Parivartan Rally in Moradabad.

@MunishKumarVe17 tweeted “Listen… This gentleman is accidentally speaking the truth… @BJP4India @PMOIndia#10SaalAnyayKaal” on Feb 16, 2024 after sharing the video of the incident. The tweet has received more than 500 views on X.

Several other accounts, including @rautsanjay61, @prbazuka_21546, @seherkhan1989, @AnandOmhari made the same claim that PM Narendra Modi supports a ballot paper-based voting system. According to the viral video, he said that in a speech in the Parivartan Rally, Moradabad, 2016. The archive can be read fro above.

What is the Actual Truth About this Video? : Fact

He was essentially explaining that while people in other educated nations, like America, still vote using ballot paper,  whereas,voters in India, who you would consider illiterate, use electronic voting machines (EVMs) and vote by pressing a button. He did not endorse and support ballot paper.

Anti BJP Politicians and political workers are circulating short video clips of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to set their political narrative and to influence the upcoming general elections in 2024. A short video clip of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s speech from the Parivartan Rally, Moradabad, 2016, is being circulated claiming that Prime Minister Narendra Modi supports a ballot paper-based voting system. In actuality, he was describing how voters in more affluent nations, like America, continue to use ballot papers, while voters in India, who you would consider illiterate, use electronic voting machines (EVMs) to cast their votes. He wasn’t in favour of ballot paper.

Conclusion:

Fact : The fact is that he was explaining how other educated countries like America still vote using ballot paper, whereas the people of India, whom you call illiterate, vote by pressing a button in EVMs. He was not supporting ballot paper.
