There are rumours circulating that Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated that conducting bhajans is one way to help reduce malnutrition in his 92nd episode of “Mann Ki Baat.”

The truth is that this assertion is false and unfounded. “Can you believe that devotional songs can be used to fight malnutrition?” asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This was accomplished successfully in the Datia district of Madhya Pradesh under the ‘Mera Bachcha Abhiyan’. Teachers dubbed “Poshan Gurus” were invited to “Bhajan” gatherings.There was also an organised programme called ‘Matka’ wherein ladies would bring fistfuls of grain to their Anganwadi centres. The grain was utilised to prepare the “Bal Bhoj” on Saturdays. This decreased malnutrition in addition to helping children attend Anganwadi centres more frequently.
