A freight train video has gone viral, purporting to show that PM Modi sold the railways to Adani. Previously, the name of the railways was “Indian Railways,” but all of the new coaches that are being brought now have “Adani Railways” printed on them.
@Kavita_Amethi made the same claim that PM Modi sold the railways to Adani. Previously, it was written as “Indian Railways,” but now all of the new coaches have “Adani Railways” written on them. The tweet was made on April 28, 2024.

What is the Actual Truth About this Incident? : Fact
The truth is that these assertions are unfounded and fraudulent. “Adani Agro Freight” is the name of the private train. Indian railways are not involved in any manner. Corporates can operate their own freight trains and are allowed by Indian Railways. Tejas Express, the country’s first private passenger service, is also in operation. We visited Economic Times, which published an article on this incident on April 11, 2017 with the headline “Railways to allow corporates to run own freight trains, move may pave way for private passenger trains”. It added ” Indian Railways will soon allow private companies to run freight trains from their own private terminals, a move which could potentially break the monopoly of the national transporter on the country’s rail roads.” Further, Economic Times posted about the India’s first private train on October 4, 2019 with the heading “India’s first private train Lucknow-Delhi Tejas Express flagged off”. The Tejas Express, the nation’s first “private” train operated by its subsidiary IRCTC, on the Lucknow-New Delhi line was inaugurated by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. The video was uploaded in Youtube on April 9, 2021.
