What is the Actual Truth About this Incident? : Fact
This is an old occurrence from the 2021 Assam assembly elections, where only 90 registered voters were there at a booth in the Dima Hasao district, but 181 votes were cast there. Five officials at least received suspensions. It is not related to the general elections that are being held in 2024. We visited NDTV ELECTIONS, which published an article on this incident on April 6, 2021 with the headline “90 Voters, 181 Votes In Assam Polling Booth. 6 Officials Suspended”. Six polling officials have been suspended in Assam after the Election Commission found that 181 votes had been cast at a booth in Dima Hasao district that had only 90 registered voters. Further, for more clarification, we also went to Hindustan Times, which posted about this on April 6, 2021 with the heading “181 votes cast in polling station with 90 voters; 5 officials suspended”. The incident happened at a polling station at Khothlir LP School in the Dima Hasao district’s Halflong seat, which held its second phase of voting on April 1. According to officials, this particular polling station — an auxiliary one in addition to the main polling station — was set up for the first time.
