Fact Check: Bangladeshi accounts disseminated false claims about the India-Bangladesh border clash in 2001

Recently, Bangladesh-based propaganda accounts have been spreading false and fabricated news about the border clash between the Bangladesh Rifles and the Border Security Force in April 2001. These accounts claim that about 200 Indian soldiers were killed and forced to surrender to Bangladeshi troops. However, these claims are entirely untrue and baseless.

Sharing the video on X (Formerly Twitter) propagandist account Tahmina Akter (@Tahmina62344037) wrote that Indian troops surrendered to Bangladesh in April 2001. On that day, about 200 Indian soldiers were killed by BDR soldiers of Bangladesh. We want to remind them of that history..! ( Translated from Bengali)

As soon as the post containing the claims about the India-Bangladesh border clash in 2001 came to our notice, we conducted research and analysis of the entire information and found that these claims are false and self-invented. 

To verify the claims made by the users, we performed a relevant keyword search on Google which led us to media reports regarding the clash. According to the media reports, The actual incident resulted in the deaths of 16 Indian soldiers and 3 Bangladeshi troops. Hence, the story of 200 soldiers being killed and a surrendering is completely false and has no foundation in reality. It is important to note that Indian soldiers didn’t surrender.

Therefore, it is evident from D-Intent Data’s Fact Check that the claims made by Bangladesh-based accounts are false and self-invented. This is nothing but propaganda against India.
