Fact Check: Digitally altered image of Mohammed Amin al-Husseini circulated with misleading claims

A digitally manipulated image of Mohammed Amin al-Husseini, the former Grand Mufti of Jerusalem, is currently circulating online, claiming he resembles Canadian actor Ryan Gosling. However, D-Intent Data has found that the image of Amin al-Husseini was digitally altered, the original, unmodified photographs of al-Husseini show that he does not resemble Gosling at all.

Sharing the image on X (Formerly Twitter) @ApostateProphet wrote, “I can’t be the only one who thinks the Nazi Grand Mufti Amin al-Husseini and Ryan Gosling look identicalโ€. The post has received more than 80k views and a significant number of engagements.

As soon as the posts containing the image of Mohammed Amin al-Husseini and Ryan Gosling came to our notice, we conducted research and analysis of Husseiniโ€™s image and found that the image had been digitally altered.ย 

To verify the claims made by the users, we performed a reverse image search on Google Lens. This led us to multiple sources containing the original image(1, 2). The original, unmodified photographs of al-Husseini show no resemblance to Ryan Gosling. 

Therefore, it is evident from verified sources that the image was not real. But digitally altered and shared with misleading claims.
