Fact Check: Extremist Women disrupt security forces deployment in Manipur, propagandists circulate misleading claims

A video showing a group of women tending to an unconscious or injured woman lying on the ground has been circulated online, claiming to depict a targeted attack on innocent tribal women by the police in Manipur. However, the police clarified that a large group of women had attempted to disrupt the deployment of Army, BSF, and CRPF personnel at Uyokching, near Thamnapokpi. The joint security forces dispersed the crowd with minimal use of force, and the situation is now peaceful and under control.

Sharing the video on X (Formerly Twitter) propagandist account @HansrajMeena wrote, “I am saddened to see the cruelty of the government towards the tribal sisters in Manipur. #SaveManipurTribals”

The truth behind the claims from Manipur, Fact Check 

As soon as the posts containing the visuals and claims came to our notice. Subsequently, we conducted research and analysis regarding the claims. We found that these claims about targeted persecution of tribal Women were not true.

To verify the claims made by the users. We performed relevant keyword searches and found the Manipur Police statement regarding the incident. Clarifying the incident, the Manipur Police stated, “Today a large number of womenfolk attempted to disrupt the deployment of Army, BSF and CRPF at Uyokching, near Thamnapokpi. The joint SF dispersed the crowd with minimum use of force and now the situation is peaceful and under control. The Joint SF are deployed at the hilltop to dominate the area and prevent any untoward incident in the area.”

Therefore, it is evident from D-Intent Data’s Fact Check that the claims about targeted persecution of tribal Women were not true.
