Fact Check: BBC reported India loses $75 million daily due to a strict boycott by Bangladesh?

Pakistan-based anti-India propaganda accounts are circulating false claims that the BBC reported India is losing $75 million daily due to a strict boycott by Bangladesh. However, these claims are completely baseless, as the BBC has not published any such report.

Making a post on X (Formerly Twitter) serial fake news peddler and propagandist account @NavCom24 wrote, “Indian economy is losing $75,000,000 every day as result of strick boycott by Bangladesh, BBCโ€.

The truth behind the claims about boycott by Bangladesh, Fact Checkย

As soon as the posts containing the claims made by propagandists came to our notice. Subsequently, we conducted research and analysis regarding the claims. We found that these claims were false and fabricated.

To verify the claims made by propagandists. We performed relevant keyword searches but couldn’t find any verified and credible sources supporting these claims. We also visited the BBC‘s official website but no such report was published on its platform. Furthermore, there is no evidence of a complete boycott by Bangladesh, as the country continues to import rice and other goods from India. In October 2024, Bangladesh stated that despite the unrest, its long-term trade with India would remain unaffected, as essential imports like rice and goods continued uninterrupted. Recently, Bangladesh has imported 24,690 metric tonnes of parboiled rice from India.

Therefore, it is evident from verified sources that India is not losing $75 Million daily due to the recent developments in the region.
