Fact Check: Viral CCTV Video of Brutal Attack Falsely Claimed to Be From India Is Actually From Brazil

A graphic CCTV video showing a man being brutally attacked with a sharp weapon has gone viral across social media platforms. However, claims suggesting the footage is from India are entirely false. The video has been misattributed as part of a coordinated attempt to spread misinformation. In reality, the incident occurred in Campo Alegre, Brazil, and has no connection to India.

One such post came from a propaganda-driven account, @NazneenAkhtar23, which shared the disturbing clip with the claim that the incident took place in India. The post gained significant traction before the user quietly deleted it—but screenshots and archived links confirm the original claim.

Another User @Chanderpal29546, posted this video with the claim:

@BJP4India @INCIndia What was this boy’s fault that he was beaten so badly? Did 2025 come for this? Does the common people have no right to live?? BJP has turned Uttarakhand Devi Bhoomi into a den of miscreants.

Truth: Viral Video Misattributed to India, Actually Shows Custody-Related Murder in Brazil

When this misleading reel came to our attention, the D-Intent Data Team launched an investigation. Using reverse image search and keyword-based fact-checking across global news platforms, we identified the original source of the footage. The video is not from India, as falsely claimed. The incident occurred in Campo Alegre, a city in the state of Alagoas, Brazil. It involved the brutal murder of a 56-year-old man, Sebastião da Silva, stemming from a long-standing custody dispute over a 5-year-old child.
According to the Civil Police of Alagoas, the assailants two brothers carried out the attack in retaliation for a custody battle involving their niece. One of the suspects was arrested and the other apprehended on the same day as the crime. The violent act was captured on local CCTV, and news outlet g1 Globo reported the full story in Portuguese on May 8, 2025.

“The motive behind the brutal murder was an ongoing custody dispute between families. Surveillance footage shows the cold and violent nature of the attackers,” said investigator Flávio Dutra, as quoted by g1.

The video has also surfaced on other platforms, including Instagram reelsDeepGoreTube, and USACrime.com, further confirming its Brazilian origin.

Our investigation confirms that the viral video has been falsely attributed to India and is part of a misleading narrative.
