Fact Check: Old Protest Video Falsely Shared as IDF Soldiers Surrendering Amid Iran Tensions

A video showing individuals confronting a group of uniformed personnel is being widely circulated with the claim that it captures Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) soldiers and pilots abandoning their posts and attempting to surrender due to escalating Iranian strikes. However, this claim is false. The video is old and actually depicts a protest unrelated to any military surrender or current Israel-Iran tensions.

One such claim was posted by the account @War_Analysts, stating:

“Narindar… Surrender 2.0. Video indicates a panic among IDF soldiers and pilots, with some allegedly abandoning positions and attempting to surrender amid escalating Iranian strikes.”

@GozukaraFurkan posted this same clip saying about IDF soldiers:

Video indicates a panic among IDF soldiers and pilots, with some allegedly abandoning positions and attempting to surrender amid escalating Iranian strikes.

One such account, @angeloinchina, posted the video with the misleading claim but later deleted it after it gained traction on social media.

several other accounts @ElysiusThor, @virjust18, @runews, @RTEUrdu and @MonitorX99800 – shared the clip across social media with misleading claims, contributing to a wave of panic and misinformation.

Truth: Viral Video Shows Protest, Not IDF Soldiers Surrendering

As this clip went viral across social media, it immediately caught our attention. The D-Intent data team launched a thorough investigation without delay. Using reverse image search on keyframes from the video, we traced it back to November 6, 2024. This footage was already circulating online well before. And it is completely unrelated to the current Israel-Iran conflict. Our search led us to earlier posts from accounts @AgenciaAJN and @bar_peleg, confirming that the video depicts a protest, not a military surrender. Despite this, the footage is now being deliberately misused to incite fear and spread misinformation.

Intent:

Propaganda accounts are recirculating old protest footage with false narratives to discredit the Israeli military and manipulate public perception during ongoing geopolitical tensions.
