Fact Check: Old Video of Buried US Dollars Falsely Linked to Punjab Floods

A video showing an individual retrieving what appears to be US dollar notes is being circulated with false claims that a family in Punjab had buried a large sum, which was allegedly ruined by recent floods. These claims are entirely false. The video predates the floods and has no connection to the situation in Punjab. Our investigation indicates that the clip is old and has been publicly available online since at least July 29, 2025 well before the floods in Punjab and surrounding areas in late August 2025.

Propaganda accounts @RealBababanaras and an influencer @MumbaichaDon shared the video with captions suggesting that the family may have links to कबूतरबाजी (illegal migration rackets), “Kh@li$tani connections,” or had received the money as a “कुदरती gift” during the alleged farmers’ protests. These posts attempted to build a misleading narrative around Punjab’s floods.

Truth: Old Video Circulating, Digitally Manipulated Audio Added

As this claim gained traction, it drew our attention. The D-Intent Data Team investigated using reverse image search and frame by frame analysis. Our investigation indicates that the video is old. It led us to the TikTok account ifound504 and the Facebook page Galaxy Restore, where the same clip had been uploaded. These posts date back to July 29, 2025, weeks before the Punjab floods in late August 2025. The voice heard in the circulating video has been digitally manipulated to fit the propaganda narrative. Moreover, the authenticity of the video itself has not been verified, as the original uploader is known for frequently posting staged or misleading money-related clips.

Intent:

Propagandists are circulating old videos with self-invented claims to set their narrative over the flood situation in Punjab.
