Fact Check: Fake Indian Army Press Conference Clip Falsely Claims Trump Forced India–Pakistan De-Escalation

Pakistani propaganda accounts are circulating a digitally manipulated video falsely claiming it is from the Indian Army’s Annual Press Conference 2026. In the altered clip, a journalist allegedly introduces himself as Anurag Sharma from Zee Media and asks provocative questions. The video then attributes a fabricated response to Indian Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi, falsely suggesting that U.S. President Donald Trump intervened in May 2025 to de-escalate the India–Pakistan conflict and that India suffered a diplomatic setback. This claim is entirely false and fabricated.

The manipulated clip was shared and amplified by several Pakistani propaganda accounts, including:
@zaryabali720, @Sikandar1290, @jalalsherazi, @GianAlyma, @KashmalaMurad37, @abdullah55308, @Khaqanabbasifan, @AbbasChandio__, @AdvAfshanAwan, and @L_8800_. These accounts posted the video with captions alleging that the Indian Army Chief “accepted Trump’s intervention” and claimed that “Operation Sindoor” was merely a media exercise.

Truth: Viral Clip Is Manipulated Extract From a Real Army Press Conference

As the false claim gained traction on social media, it drew our attention. The D-Intent Data Team conducted a detailed frame-by-frame investigation and keyword research. Our investigation led us to the India Today YouTube channel, which uploaded the full and unedited video of the Indian Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi’s Annual Press Conference 2026. The same press briefing was also officially covered under the title “Army Press Briefing: Indian Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi Holds Annual Press Conference—2026.”

In the original press conference, the journalist from Zee Media was Anurag Sharma, who asked a routine operational question related to the Indian Army’s preparedness and lessons from Operation Sindoor, focusing on future jointness and modernisation. He did not ask anything about Donald Trump, U.S. intervention, diplomatic surrender, or de-escalation pressure. In response, General Upendra Dwivedi spoke about future warfare being a national-level effort, emphasising jointness among services, Atmanirbharta, accelerated innovation, and the need to adapt strategies based on operational lessons. At no point did he mention the United States, Donald Trump, or any foreign mediation in India–Pakistan matters.

The viral video circulating online is a digitally manipulated segment taken from this real press conference, where audio has been altered, lip movements do not align with the spoken words, and selective splicing has been used to falsely attribute statements to the Army Chief that he never made.
