Enraged Over Dust in Eyes, Man Thrashed Minor in Barmer, Rajasthan, No Caste Angle

A few days ago, a disturbing video surfaced on social media depicting a man brutally assaulting a minor child in Rajasthan’s Barmer. The video was shared by propagandists @SAHR_Watch and Kashif Arsalaan (@KashifArsalaan), claiming a caste-based motive behind the attack. However, a closer examination of the incident reveals a different story. The incident occurred on August 16 in Mate Ka Tala village under Chohtan police station. Contrary to the claims, there was no caste angle to the altercation and the man thrashed a minor.

The Incident

The video, lasting 7 minutes and 32 seconds, showcased a man armed with a stick assaulting the minor child while shouting and abusing him. The young boy was seen attempting to escape the blows, crying out in distress. The incident took place near a sand dune where the child and his friends were playing. The trigger for the assault was not caste-related, but rather a momentary fit of anger. Sand accidentally flew into the eyes of the accused from the child’s feet, prompting his aggressive reaction.

Police Investigation

Chauhtan Police SHO Jaikishan clarified that the incident was captured in a video that dated back to August 16. The minor child, a resident of Mate ka Tala, was playing with his friends near a sand dune. As they played, sand inadvertently entered the eyes and mouth of the accused, leading to his enraged response. The police took swift action, reaching out to the child’s family and verifying his well-being. Contrary to misleading reports, the child did not sustain serious injuries and is in good health. They posted this update on Twitter too.

Arrest and Resolution

The accused, identified as Daularam, was arrested by Barmer Police within three days of the incident. The police’s preliminary inquiry confirmed the trigger for the assault was the dust that entered the accused’s eyes and mouth. The situation was wrongly portrayed as a caste-based attack. The police promptly dispelled these rumours and emphasized that the child’s injuries were minimal. The arrested individual, Daularam, had reacted impulsively to the discomfort caused by the dust.

Conclusion and Intent

The initial claims of caste-based violence were found to be baseless upon a thorough investigation. By falsely attributing the assault to caste-based motives, the propagandist aimed to exploit existing fault lines and fuel communal tensions. Such manipulative tactics are often used to exploit sensitive issues for personal or ideological gain. The misleading narrative sought to invoke anger and resentment by portraying the incident as a targeted attack on the basis of caste. This false portrayal could have triggered outrage and protests, potentially leading to a cycle of conflict. In a diverse and socially sensitive country like India, spreading such divisive misinformation can have serious repercussions, escalating social tensions and even inciting violence. The minor’s well-being was ensured, and appropriate action was taken against the accused.
