Fact Check: Amid ongoing violence in Bangladesh, old photo of unconscious Hindu man resurfaced as recent incident

An image of an unconscious elderly man on a stretcher is being falsely shared as a recent event related to the ongoing violence against minorities in Bangladesh. In reality, this image dates back to August 2022 and is connected to an attack on Narendranath Munda. He was targeted by extremist terrorists while attempting to resist the illegal seizure of land belonging to the Munda community in Satkhira, Bangladesh.

Sharing the image on X (Formerly Twitter) @FarazPervaiz3  wrote, “Bangladesh: A #Hindu Narendranath Munda was killed in an armed attack by Muslim extremists at Shyamnagar in Satkhira”.

As soon as the posts containing the image and claims came to our notice. Subsequently, we conducted research and analysis of the image. We found that the image was not recent but an old incident from August 2022.

To verify the claims made by the users. We performed relevant keyword searches and found a report regarding the incident. According to the report, this image is related to an old incident from August 2022 when extremists and terrorists targeted Narendranath Munda. At that time he was preventing the forcible seizure of land belonging to the Munda community in Satkhira, Bangladesh. However, the minorities are facing extreme violence in the country.
