Fact Check: Attack on Afghan staff working at the inoperative consulate in Afghanistan’s Jalalabad, propagandists circulate misleading claims

Pakistan-based anti-India propaganda accounts are spreading false claims that at least three high-ranking Indian diplomats were killed in a targeted shooting incident at the Indian consulate in Jalalabad, Afghanistan. However, these claims are untrue. All the victims were local Afghan nationals employed at the inoperative Indian consulate, and no Indian citizens were harmed or killed in the attack.

Making a post on X (Formerly Twitter) serial fake news peddler and propagandist account @NavCom24 wrote. “Just in, massive attack on Indian embassy staff in Afghanistan, 06 high ranking diplomats killed.”

Another propaganda account @SAnPerspective also made a post and wrote. “At least 03 Indian embassy officials have been killed by unknown assailants in Jalalabad, Afghanistan.”

The truth behind the claims about Afghanistan, Fact Check 

As soon as the posts containing the claims made by propagandists came to our notice. Subsequently, we conducted research and analysis regarding the incident. We found that no Indian citizens were harmed or killed in the attack.

To verify the claims made by the propagandists. We performed relevant keyword searches and found several reports regarding the incident. According to the media reports (1, 2, 3), all the victims were local Afghan nationals employed at the inoperative Indian consulate, and no Indian citizens were harmed or killed in the attack. It’s important to note that only the Indian embassy in Kabul is operational.
