Fact Check: Border Guard Bangladesh apprehended two smugglers from Kasba, Pakistanis spread misleading claims

Pakistan-based anti-India propaganda accounts are falsely claiming that the Bangladesh military arrested two Indian intelligence operatives who crossed the border illegally near the Kasba area. In reality, the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) detained two Indian smugglers during a raid in the Saldanadi border area of Kasba upazila, Brahmanbaria.

Sharing an image on X (Formerly Twitter) propaganda account @TacticalTribun wrote, โ€œBangladeshi Military arrested 2 Indian Intel operatives who illegally crossed the border at Kasba areaโ€.

As soon as the posts containing the image and claims came to our notice. Subsequently, we conducted research and analysis regarding the claims. We found that BGB apprehended two smugglers at the international border, not Intelligence operatives.

To verify the claims made by propagandists. We performed a reverse image search using Google Lens and keyboard search. These actions led us to media reports regarding the incident. According to the reports (1, 2), the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) detained two Indian smugglers during a raid in the Saldanadi border area of Kasba upazila, Brahmanbaria. The individuals arrested were identified as Raju Ahmed (26) and Sohag Hasan (25), both residents of Gaurangala village in Kalamchhara police station’s jurisdiction, Sipahijla district, Tripura. This incident has no connection to intelligence operatives.

Therefore, it is evident from verified sources that the BGB has apprehended two smugglers, not intelligence operatives.
