Fact Check: Learner Driver ‘Mistakenly’ ran over five people in Kaithal, Haryana, CCTV footage circulated with distorted claims

A CCTV footage showing an out-of-control car crashing into a group of people seated on chairs on a concrete surface has been circulated with the claim that they were sitting in the middle of the road when the car hit them. In fact, the incident took place in Cheeka, Haryana, where a learner driver mistakenly accelerated instead of braking at the Anaj Mandi premises. The individuals were seated outside their shop, not on a main road.

Sharing the video on X (Formerly Twitter) propaganda account @RealBababanaras wrote, “Whose fault is it? Car drivers or people who are sitting in a gathering in the middle of the road.”
