Fact Check: BSF soldier Janamjay Mishra passed away from a heart in Punjab, propagandists circulate misleading claims

Pakistan-based anti-India propaganda accounts are circulating an image falsely alleging that BSF soldier Janamjay Mishra was killed in a militant ambush in Jammu, J&K. However, these claims are entirely baseless. Reliable and verified sources confirm that Janamjay Kumar, also known as Dablu Mishra, tragically passed away due to a heart attack on January 26, 2025.

Sharing the image on X (Formerly Twitter) propaganda account @TacticalTribun wrote, “BSF soldier, Janamjay Mishra, killed by Kashmiri fighters in Jammu region during an ambush.”

Another propaganda account @Mr_Foujeet also posted the image and wrote, “BREAKING: BSF soldier Janamjay Mishra has been killed in an ambush by Kashmiri freedom fighters in the Jammu region of IIOJK.”

Several other users, influencers and propagandists have also disseminated the image and made similar claims. Their posts can be seen here, @RazakarOrder, @Pak_AfgAffairs.

The truth behind the claims, Fact Check

As soon as the posts containing the image and claims came to our notice. Subsequently, we conducted research and analysis regarding the claims. We found that the claims were false and baseless.

To verify the claims made by propagandists. We performed reverse image searches and relevant keyword searches. These actions led us to a media report regarding the incident. According to the reports (1, 2), Janamjay Kumar, also known as Dablu Mishra, tragically passed away due to a heart attack on January 26, 2025. At the time of his death, he was stationed along the international border in Rajasthan and Punjab. His demise is unrelated to any militant activity or targeted attack.

Therefore, it is evident from verified sources that the BSF soldier passed away due to a heart attack, not a terrorist attack.
