The truth about the viral claims where Muslim population from voting in elections in Denmark is banned, Fact Check

As soon as the posts containing the claims came to our notice, we conducted research and did not find any verified media report or official statement stating that Muslims were barred from voting in elections in Denmark.

According to the information available on Denmark’s Interior and Health Ministry website, Any person who has attained the age of 18 years, is a national of Denmark and resident of the Kingdom is eligible to vote in a general election. People under guardianship who have been deprived of legal capacity, however, are ineligible to vote.

Additionally, according to the Nordic Co-operation, You can vote in Danish parliamentary elections and referendums. If you are at least 18 years of age, you are a Danish citizen and you live in Denmark. However, you do not have the right to vote if you are disenfranchised (under special guardianship).

During research, we found a report by DW News published in October 2019, the report states. That Denmark’s parliament approved legislation that allows people with dual citizenship who fought for the “Islamic State” (IS) group in Syria and Iraq to be stripped of their Danish nationality.

In our research, we have found that the claims currently going viral are not new. In fact, they have been circulating on social media since October 2020.

Therefore, based on D-Intent Data’s Fact Check, it is clear that Denmark has not passed any law preventing its Muslim population from voting in the elections.
