Social media users including politicians are circulating claims that two bodies of Sadhu and Sadhvi were found under suspicious conditions in Kanpur. The incident has been portrayed as they were murdered. However, the police have clarified that an unknown vehicle ran over a woman and a man near the Paramat temple in the Gwaltoli police station area, both of whom died on the spot.
Sharing visuals from the incident site, Samajwadi party leader @IPSinghSp wrote. The bodies of a Sadhu and a Sadhvi have been found in Kanpur. Both the bodies were found under suspicious circumstances near Paramat Square in Kanpur. From their attire, both the deceased seem to be sadhus and saints. The lives of even sadhus and saints are not safe in UP. There is an atmosphere of anarchy in UP.

As soon as the posts containing the sensitive visuals and claims came to our notice. Subsequently, we conducted research and analysis of the incident and found that the elderly couple were killed after an unknown vehicle ran over them.
To verify the claims made by the users. We performed a relevant keyword search on Google. This led us to Kanpur Police’s official statement on X (Formerly Twitter). The police have clarified that an unknown vehicle ran over a woman and a man near the Paramat temple in Gwaltoli police station area, both of whom died on the spot and the action is being taken.
According to an NDTV report, An elderly couple was mowed to death on Saturday morning in a hit-and-run incident outside the Anandeshwar Shiv Temple. The incident took place approximately at 5 am when a driver visiting the temple struck the couple who were sleeping near the temple premises.
Therefore, it is evident from verified sources that the elderly couple were killed in an accident, the claims about the murder of Sadhvi and Sadhu were not true.
