A recent incident where ITBP Jawans were injured in Jammu and Kashmir’s Banihal has been misrepresented by Pakistan-based propaganda accounts. A video showing an overturned truck in a gorge has gone viral with false claims of a militant attack on Indian soldiers. This fact-check aims to clarify the actual events surrounding the accident and debunk the misleading claims.

Pakistan-based propaganda accounts have shared the video and claimed that it was a targeted attack on Indian soldiers in Jammu and Kashmir.

Sharing the video on X (Formerly Twitter) propaganda account named “Pakistan first” said. “4 Indian soldiers died in Indian occupied Jammu & Kashmir when the truck transporting them came under fire from Kashmiri freedom fighters at Kharpora village in Ramban district.Occupation of Jammu & Kashmir is becoming very costly for India both economically and militarily.” The post is available here (archived).

As soon as the video came to our knowledge, we tried to find if the claims are true or false. We conducted research and found a news report on Punjab Kesari regarding the video.

According to the report, four people, including three ITBP jawans, were injured when a private truck overturned near Kharpora village of Banihal on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway. The truck was going from Jammu to Kashmir Valley. A police officer informed that immediately after the incident after that a rescue operation was started by local people, police, traffic police and volunteers of NGO Banihal.

He also said that all the four injured have been rescued from the accident spot. And have been taken to SDH Banihal for treatment, where their condition is said to be out of danger.

Moreover, we also found the video on Jammu and Kashmir based media outlet ‘Greater Kashmir. the media outlet posted the video with caption “Three #ITBP Jawans among four injured after truck plunges into gorge in J&K’s #Banihal”.

The claims made by Pakistanis are false and baseless. There was no attack on the soldiers and it was an accident and no casualty was reported.
