Fact Check: Jio AirFiber Antenna Misidentified as Spy Device in Baruipur

A photo of an antenna on a rooftop is going viral, with claims that two Kashmiri men in Baruipur, West Bengal, installed a “suspicious” NanoBeam 2AC device used for long-range internet. The posts hint at possible shady activity. In reality, it’s not a spy device, it was just a Jio AirFiber Plus C6—a common internet receiver used across India for regular home broadband. Nothing unusual, nothing suspicious.

An BJP Politician account @SuvenduWb shared this:

Two Kashmiri men living in Flat 1F, Block-2, Niranjan Apartment, Baruipur, West Bengal, have installed a NanoBeam 2AC device on their rooftop. The post suggests the setup may be linked to suspicious activity and tags @WBPolice and @NIA_India for investigation.

The truth about this Spy Device:

When the post started gaining traction online, D-Intent picked up the viral video and began investigating. Their team looked into the claims and found that the local police @baruipurpd2 responded to the situation. The police quickly stepped in to verify what was going on. It turns out the two men aren’t from Kashmir—they’re both from Madhya Pradesh, one Hindu and one Muslim. They’re engineers who moved into the apartment just a few weeks ago and are exploring fish farming with the help of a local contact. That so-called “suspicious” device on the roof is simply a Jio AirFiber—a common internet receiver seen on rooftops all over India. Nothing secretive, nothing out of the ordinary.

The official police statement @baruipurpd2 clarified:

It is unfortunate that some people choose to disseminate inaccurate and potentially inciteful information on social media… Any public insinuation against an individual without verifying the facts is legally punishable.

Intent:

It’s really unfortunate that some people spread false and inflammatory rumors on social media. Making accusations about someone without checking the facts can actually have legal consequences.
