Fact Check: Nigeria Did Not Scrap Defence Agreements with India

Pakistani propaganda accounts are spreading false claims alleging that Nigeria has cancelled all remaining defence deals with India, citing so-called “growing US–India tensions.” These claims are baseless and misleading. In reality, India–Nigeria defence cooperation remains strong and continues to expand in areas such as maritime security, counter-terrorism, and joint training. No credible, verified, or official sources support these allegations.

Several accounts, including @ZardSi and @JeffPmln, spread this fake news, claiming:

“Nigeria Cancels Remaining Defence Deals with India, Cites ‘Growing US-India Tensions’ as the Reason.”

Truth: India–Nigeria Defence Partnership is Growing, Not Cancelled

As this claim gained traction, it drew our attention. The D-Intent Data Team starts the investigation. We conduct keyword research and search through credible sources. we found the claim to be entirely false. In reality, India and Nigeria are strengthening their defence partnership. According to NewsOnAir, India’s Minister of State for Defence, Sanjay Seth, recently met with Nigeria’s Defence Minister, Dr. Bello Mohammed Matawalle, in New Delhi. The two leaders discussed closer cooperation in areas like counter-terrorism, maritime security, anti-piracy operations, and defence industry collaboration.

Reports from Deccan Chronicle and Chronicle India add that India showcased advanced equipment such as Light Combat Aircraft, Light Combat Helicopters, and Offshore Patrol Vessels, while also proposing joint research and development projects.

Meanwhile, Nigerian outlets like Pulse and Daily Post praised this growing partnership, calling it a “turning point” for Nigeria’s defence capacity and security reforms.

India and Nigeria are strengthening their defence partnership, and the claims of cancelled deals are entirely false.
