Fact Check: No Evidence Iran Arrested Indians or Afghans for Spying for Israel

Pakistani propaganda accounts are circulating a video claiming that Iranian police arrested several Indian and Afghan nationals for spying for Israel amid protests in Iran. The posts attempt to portray these alleged arrests as proof of foreign involvement in Iran’s internal unrest. This claim is false and fabricated. In reality, no Iranian authority has reported any such arrests, and no credible international media outlet has confirmed the allegation. The narrative relies solely on unverified sources and lacks official evidence.

The false claim was shared by propaganda-linked account @ZardSi. It was later amplified by other accounts, including @hehe_samir and @AfghanTimes7, which reposted the same narrative without evidence.

Truth behind Arrest of Indians or Afghans for Spying for Israel

As the false claim gained traction on social media, it drew our attention. The D-Intent Data Team conducted a detailed frame-by-frame investigation and keyword research. Our analysis traced the video to the Kanal13 YouTube channel, which uploaded it on 19 June 2025. Kanal13 is an Azerbaijani online media outlet operating from the USA and Germany. The same content also appears on its Instagram pages @kanal13az@kanal13.az, as well as its twitter and Facebook accounts Kanal13.TV.

However, Kanal13 did not cite any official Iranian police, judicial, or government sources. Instead, the video relies on unnamed sources and references a Russian analyst. Crucially, no Iranian state agency or credible international outlet has confirmed the arrest of Indians or Afghans for espionage. The video itself refers broadly to foreign intelligence activity and does not provide verified details linking it to Indian nationals.

Intent:

Propaganda accounts are circulating old videos with self-invented claims to set their narrative against India and Afghanistan over the ongoing unrest in Iran.
