Fact Check: Afghanistan Did Not Offer Bagram Airbase for US Strikes Against Iran

Pakistani propaganda accounts are circulating claims that Afghanistan has offered the immediate operationalisation of the Bagram Airbase to the United States for launching strikes against Iran in exchange for continued US aid worth $850 million. The posts suggest that Kabul is willing to host foreign military operations as part of a secret deal. This claim is false and fabricated. No official Afghan or US authority has made any such announcement, and no credible international media outlet has reported this development.

The false narrative was first pushed by Pakistani propaganda accounts including @Shadowfox_11@ZardSi, and @ArmedUpdat1947. These accounts presented the claim as “breaking news” and attempted to portray it as a major geopolitical development, despite providing no evidence or official confirmation.

Truth: Afghan Government Rejects Any Foreign Military Use of Bagram Airbase

As the false claim gained traction on social media, it drew our attention. The D-Intent Data Team conducted a detailed frame-by-frame investigation and keyword research. Our investigation led us to multiple credible reports, including coverage by . Afghan government spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid categorically rejected reports of any deal involving the Bagram Airbase. He stated that Afghanistan would not give “even a foot” of its territory to any country and would not allow foreign military forces to operate on Afghan soil.

Mujahid further clarified that while Afghanistan remains open to political and economic engagement with all countries, including the United States, such engagement must take place through diplomatic channels, not military bases. He also reiterated that neither Bagram Airbase nor any other part of Afghanistan would be handed over to any foreign power. These statements directly contradict the viral claims.
