Fact-Check: Old Assam Eviction Video Falsely Shared as Bihar Demolishing Dalit Homes

A video of people arguing with police during an eviction drive is being shared with the false claim that it is from Bihar. The posts claim that the Bihar government is demolishing Dalit (Paswan) homes and targeting the community. However, this narrative is false. The video is not from Bihar, and it does not show any caste-based action. It is actually an old video from Hojai, Assam, and the eviction shown was part of a drive against illegal encroachments, not a caste-based action.

The false narrative was circulated by influencer accounts such as @nidhiambedkar, who posted the video while accusing the Bihar government of targeting the Paswan community and claiming that Chirag Paswan remained silent on the matter.

Truth: Original Video Is from August 2025 Assam Eviction Drive, Not Bihar

As the false claim gained traction on social media, it drew our attention. The D-Intent Data Team conducted a detailed frame-by-frame investigation and keyword research to verify the footage. Our investigation led us to multiple credible news outlets, Northeast Media HubNDTV, and HornbillTV, all of which reported the original incident. NDTV’s coverage—“Eviction Drive In Assam Turns Chaotic As Settler Clings To Bulldozer” and 2 Men Hang Off Earthmover To Stop Eviction Drive In Assam—matches the viral video frame by frame.

These reports confirm that the footage is from Hojai district, Assam, filmed during an eviction operation against illegal encroachment in August 2025. The clash occurred when residents attempted to stop authorities from removing unauthorized structures. There is no connection to Bihar, no link to Dalits, and no evidence whatsoever that the Bihar government demolished homes of the Paswan community. The viral claim is simply a misrepresentation of an unrelated event.

Intent:

Propaganda accounts are circulating old videos from Assam with misleading claims to set their narrative based on caste.
