Pakistan-based anti-India propaganda accounts have been spreading false claims that Indian Army personnel are resorting to suicide due to alleged war-like tensions with Pakistan and Bangladesh. However, these claims reference an old report from 2022.
Making a post on X (Formerly Twitter) serial fake news peddler and propagandist account @TacticalTribun wrote. The Indian military is facing a Silent Crisis while doing war mongering against Pakistan and Bangladesh:. 1) Last 4 years, 819 Indian soldiers died by suicide*—642 from the Army, 148 Air Force, and 29 Navy. 2) Since 2011, 1,532 paramilitary personnel have taken their own lives, with CRPF facing the highest toll. 3) Despite mental health initiatives, 100+ soldiers die by suicide each year. Non-combat deaths now outnumber combat casualties.

Another propaganda account @PSYWAROPS also made a post and wrote, The #Indian military is grappling with a “Silent Crisis” amidst its relentless war-mongering against #Pakistan
and #Bangladesh. Over the past 4 years, 819 Indian soldiers have died by suicide—a staggering 642 from the Army, 148 from the Air Force, and 29 from the Navy.

The truth behind the claims about suicide cases in Indian Armed Forces, Fact Check
As soon as the posts containing the claims made by propagandists. Subsequently, we conducted research and analysis regarding the claims. We found that the report was not recent and unrelated to any border situation.
To verify the claims made by propagandists. We performed relevant keyword searches and found media reports regarding the claims. These claims cite that, over the last four years, 819 Indian soldiers have died by suicide—642 from the Army, 148 from the Air Force, and 29 from the Navy. However, the cited data originates from a 2022 report, which revealed that 819 suicides were reported in the Indian Armed Forces over a five-year period. While the suicide of soldiers is indeed a tragic reality, it is not unique to India. For instance, in the United States, 523 service members died by suicide in 2023, a rise from 493 in the previous year. Such incidents occurred due to the mental health challenges faced by armed forces globally.
Therefore, it is evident from verified sources that the report was not recent and unrelated to any border situation.
