Fact Check: Old video of indecent assault from Philadelphia falsely linked to Indian tourist 

Propagandists are sharing a video claiming that a man involved in a sexual assault on a woman in Philadelphia was identified as an Indian tourist named Kanti Lal Shah. However, this claim is false and fabricated. The video is from July 2024 and shows an incident where a man was caught on camera sexually assaulting a woman at a Dollar Tree store in Philadelphia. The accused was identified as Gary Miles from Southwest Philadelphia. 

Sharing the video on X (Formerly Twitter) serial fake news peddler and propagandist account @AsianDigest (@CrimesDigest) wrote. “Kanti Lal Shah in Philadelphia EJACULATED on a woman’s leg in a Dollar Tree Store, Just when you think you’ve seen it all.”

The truth about the video shared as Indian tourist, Fact Check 

As soon as the posts containing the video and claims came to our notice. Subsequently, we conducted research and analysis of the video. We found that the incident was old and unrelated to any Indian individual.

To verify the claims made by propagandists. We performed a reverse image search of some key frames from the viral video using Google Lens. This led us to media reports containing the same visuals. According to the reports (1, 2), the video is from July 2024 and shows an incident where a man was caught on camera sexually assaulting a woman at a Dollar Tree store in Philadelphia. The accused was identified as Gary Miles from Southwest Philadelphia. The incident has no connection to any Indian individual, hence, the accused was not an Indian.
