Fact Check: Bangladeshi influencer Khushi Roy and her family were detained by the BGB while attempting to cross into India illegally, and misleading claims surfaced 

Claims are circulating on social media that Bangladeshi Hindu influencer Khushi Roy and her family were arrested in Bangladesh for creating and sharing videos about violence against minorities. However, the truth is that they were detained by the Border Guard Bangladesh while attempting to cross into India illegally. Their arrest is not connected to any activism or statements regarding minority violence in Bangladesh.

Sharing an image on X (Formerly Twitter), @nidhisharmahu wrote, “SAVE BANGLADESHI HINDU’S. Khushi Roy, one of our Bangladeshi sisters who was playing a significant role in the Sanatani movement there, was receiving continuous death threats from radical Muslims.”

Another account, @avroneel80 also made a post and wrote, “I already know that no one will stand by the minority Hindus of Bangladesh. Khushi Roy, a Hindu girl, was active in the minority rights movement. Islamic administration arrested him.”

The truth behind the claims about arrest of Khushi Roy, Fact Check 

As soon as the posts containing the claims came to our notice. Subsequently, we conducted research and analysis regarding the claims. We found that Khushi and her family members were arrested while attempting to enter India illegally. 

To verify the claims made by users. We performed relevant keyword searches and found media reports regarding the incident. According to the media reports (1, 2), Khushi and her family were detained by the Border Guard Bangladesh while attempting to cross into India illegally. Hence, their arrest was unrelated to any activism or statements about minority violence in Bangladesh.

Therefore, it is evident from verified sources that Khushi Roy and her family members were arrested while attempting to enter India illegally. Not related to activism.
