Fact check: Old Video of Indonesian Vice President Misrepresented as Recent

A video showing Indonesian Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka is being circulated with the false claim that he recently visited protestors amid ongoing violent demonstrations. In reality, the video is old, having been available online since at least June, 2025, and has no connection to the current protests in Indonesia.

The video was shared by influencer @gustavssondhela, claiming that President Prabowo, Opung Luhut, Om Wiranto, and Om Hendro directly instructed Vice President Gibran to go to the field so that demonstrators would not be swayed by provocations. The post also alleged that Anus Baswedan was trying to replace Gibran as Vice President and went down to the demonstration to provoke unrest, presenting the video as if it were a recent event.

Truth: Old Video of Vice President Gibran Misrepresented as Recent

As this claim gained traction, it drew our attention. The D-Intent Data Team investigated the video did reverse image research and frame by frame analysis. Our Findings led us to The YouTube channel Wakil Presiden Republik Indonesia posted the footage on 6 June 2025, showing Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka watching the Timnas Indonesia vs China match at Balaikota Surakarta.

Additionally, Kompas.com reported on 5 June 2025 that Vice President Gibran surprised residents of Solo who had gathered in front of the Balaikota Solo for the screening of the World Cup 2026 qualifying match between Indonesia and China. Wearing a black t-shirt, he casually greeted and interacted with the crowd, creating a lively and cheerful atmosphere. The video clearly corresponds to this event and is not related to any recent protests in Indonesia.
