An old video of bridge collapse from Palanpur has been shared on social media platforms and falsely projected as the Morbi bridge collapse. However, D-Intent Data has found that the visuals are from a different location and time, not from the Morbi bridge collapse site.

Old video of bridge collapse from Palanpur resurfaced with misleading claims

After the Delhi Airport T1 roof collapse incident, users started circulating videos of different incidents to counter the incident. An account on X(Formerly Twitter) has shared a video of bridge collapse and claimed to be of Morbi bridge collapse. Sharing the video @indiaredeem has said, “Morbi bridge which took 135 innocent lives was built by Modi Govt”.

Another user @rkhuria2 on X has also posted the video and captioned, Morbi Bridge in Gujarat where 135 people lost their lives. Modi Govt’s focus is on infrastructure projects because they offer immense scope of kickbacks from Contractors who use sub standard material.

Truth behind the video: Identifying the old video of bridge collapse from Palanpur

As soon as the video came to our knowledge, we conducted research. And found several reports (The Hindu, TOI) regarding the video. As per the reports this is an old video from Palanpur, Gujarat where a section of an under-construction railway overbridge collapsed in October 2023.

During research, we have also found the same video uploaded on several media platforms. The Tribune, The Economic Times and ANI

Hence, it is evident from D-Intent Data’s fact-check that the shared video is not of Morbi bridge which collapsed in October 2022. But it is from Palanpur, Banaskantha where an under-construction railway overbridge collapsed in October 2023.
