Fact Check: Old video of Samajwadi Party MP Dimple Yadav falsely shared as Mahakumbh Mela 2025

A video circulating online claims to show Samajwadi Party MP Dimple Yadav bathing in a river during the ongoing Mahakumbh Mela 2025 in Prayagraj. However, this claim is misleading. The video is not recent and has no connection to the Mahakumbh Mela. It dates back to October 2022 in Haridwar, where Akhilesh Yadav, Dimple Yadav, and other family members performed the Ashti Visarjan (immersion of ashes) ritual for former Uttar Pradesh CM Mulayam Singh Yadav after his passing.

Sharing the video on X (Formerly Twitter) @singh_kikki wrote, “Do you all know that Akhilesh’s daughter-in-law has also taken a dip in the Maha Kumbh. Do you think she must have been washed or not?”

Several other users and Influencers have also shared the video and made similar claims. Their posts can be seen here, @Devilal_Saini69, @tripathi____jii.

The truth about the video shared as Mahakumbh, Fact Check

As soon as the posts containing the video and claims came to our notice. Subsequently, we conducted research and analysis of the video. We found that the video was not from the Mahakumbh Mela but an old video from Haridwar.

To verify the claims made by the users. We performed a reverse image search of some key frames from the viral video using Google Lens. This led us to initial media reports containing the same visuals. According to the reports (1, 2), the footage is from October 2022 in Haridwar, where Akhilesh Yadav, Dimple Yadav and other family members performed the Ashti Visarjan (immersion of ashes) ritual for the former CM of UP Mulayam Singh Yadav, following his demise.

Therefore, it is evident from D-Intent Data’s Fact Check that the video was not related to the Mahakumbh Mela 2025 in Prayagraj.
