Fact Check: Pakistan-based propagandists circulate misleading claims about the death toll in Manipur violence 

Pakistan-based anti-India propaganda accounts are circulating unfounded claims that over 2,000 Christian minorities have died in Manipur due to recent violence. These assertions are completely false and lack any factual basis. According to verified sources, the total death toll from the conflict between the Meitei and Kuki communities, as well as actions by security forces since May 2023, stands at 258. This number encompasses casualties across all communities affected by the violence, not exclusively the Kuki (Christian) community.

Making a post on X (Formerly Twitter) propaganda account @SAnPerspective wrote, “Death toll of Christian minorities crossed 2,000 in India’s troubled Manipur state.”

The truth behind the claims about Manipur violence, Fact Check 

As soon as the posts containing the claims made by propagandists came to our notice. Subsequently, we conducted research and analysis regarding the claims. We found that the claims were false and self-invented.

To verify the claims made by propagandists.  We performed relevant keyword searches and found a verified report regarding the death toll in Manipur violence. According to the report, the total death toll from the conflict between the Meitei and Kuki communities, as well as actions by security forces since May 2023, stands at 258. This figure includes casualties from all communities involved in the violence, not just the Kuki (Christian) community.

Therefore, verified sources confirm that the claims of over 2,000 Christians being killed in the violence are false and fabricated.
