Fact Check: Old video of a militant firing bullets resurfaced with misleading claims amid the tension in Kangpokpi, Manipur

A video showing a man firing bullets is being circulated with false claims that Kuki militants have taken over Kangpokpi and forced the Indian Army and CRPF to flee. However, these claims are untrue, as security forces remain present. On January 3, 2025, a protest by CoTU in Kangpokpi District turned violent, with protesters demanding the withdrawal of Central Security Forces from Saibol village. The mob attacked the Superintendent of Police’s office with stones and petrol bombs, injuring SP Manoj Prabhakar. Security forces restored order, and the situation is now stable. The video is old and unrelated to recent events.

Sharing the video on X (Formerly Twitter) propaganda account @TacticalTribun wrote, “Kuki freedom fighters have taken control of Kangpokpi city of Indian forces. The Indian army have fled the area.”

Another propaganda account @RazakarOrder also shared the video and wrote, “Manipur India the Kuki freedom fighters have taken away the city of Kangpokpi from Indian forces. The Indian army and CRPF have fled the area.”
