Fact Check: Pakistan’s CTD arrested two terrorists affiliated with Fitna Al-Khawarij, propagandists circulate misleading claims

Pakistan-based propaganda accounts are spreading false claims that Pakistan’s Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) has arrested two terrorists involved in the I-9 grenade attack, alleging they had ties to both Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and India. However, these claims about India’s involvement are entirely fabricated. According to local reports, the CTD Spokesperson stated that an operation near Mughal Market, Rawalpindi, led to the arrest of two terrorists—Hamza and Roman—who were affiliated with the extremist group Fitna Al-Khawarij.

Making a post on X (Formerly Twitter), serial fake news peddler and propagandist account @TacticalTribun wrote, “Pakistan’s CTD has arrested 2 terrorists who were involved in I-9 grenade attack. Both had contacts with TTP and India”

The truth behind the claims, Fact Check 

As soon as the posts containing the claims made by propagandists came to our notice. Subsequently, we conducted research and analysis regarding the claims. We found that the claims about India’s links were false and fabricated.

To verify the claims made by propagandists. We performed a relevant keyword search and a report regarding the arrest. According to local reports, the CTD Spokesperson stated that an operation near Mughal Market, Rawalpindi, led to the arrest of two terrorists—Hamza and Roman—who were affiliated with the extremist group Fitna Al-Khawarij. 

The spokesperson said that the arrested individuals were in contact with a key commander of Fitna Al-Khawarij in Afghanistan but made no mention of any link to India. Moreover, India does not support any militant or terrorist organizations worldwide.
