Fact Check: Restaurant worker caught spitting on rotis in Baghpat, video circulated with misleading claims

A disturbing video has surfaced, showing a worker spitting on rotis during their preparation. The video has been misrepresented as an incident involving a Hindu man at a restaurant or dhaba. However, further investigation reveals that the individual in question is Shahzad, who does not belong to the Hindu community. 

This incident occurred in Baghpat, and it has sparked significant outrage. In the 38-second video, the man sitting in the car and recording the video says, eat the chicken of these bastards, we thought Hindu brothers are good, but look at this Hindu dhaba, how he is spitting. This is Naresh Chicken Corner, Baghpat.

Sharing the video on X (Formerly Twitter) propagandist account @iamharunkhan wrote. “Shop Name – “Naresh Chicken”. Quality – Spitting on Pure Roti. Address- Tittiri Town, Baghpat.”

Another propaganda account @s_afreen7 also shared the video and wrote. “UP, Baghpat, Naresh the chicken vendor is spitting on rotis!, Look who is spitting in the rotis! You just defame others!. 

The truth about the video of a worker spitting on rotis, Fact Check 

As soon as the posts containing the video and claims came to our notice. Subsequently, we conducted research and analysis of the incident and found that the worker spitting on rotis doesn’t belong to the Hindu community.

To verify the claims made by the users. We performed a reverse image search of some key frames from the viral video on Google Lens. This led us to several media reports containing the same visuals. According to the media reports (1, 2, 3), the worker has been arrested and identified as Shahzad, indicating he doesn’t belong to the Hindu community, but a minority community. 

We also discovered the Baghpat Police statement regarding the viral video. The police said a case has been registered at Police Station Kotwali Baghpat. 01 accused has been arrested by Police Station Kotwali Baghpat. Further legal action is being taken.

Therefore, it is evident from verified sources that the worker spitting on rotis during preparation doesn’t belong to the Hindu community, but a Minority community. He has been arrested and identified as Shahzad.
