Fact Check: Russian intelligence has arrested an Indian diplomat for espionage? No, here is the truth

Pakistan-based anti-India propaganda accounts are spreading false claims that Russian intelligence has arrested an Indian diplomat for espionage, alleging the individual was secretly working for the CIA. However, these claims are entirely baseless and fabricated, with no connection to reality. There is no confirmation from credible news outlets or official government sources.

Making a post on X (Formerly Twitter) serial fake news peddler and propagandist account @PSYWAROPS wrote, Russian intelligence has arrested an #Indian diplomat on charges of espionage, alleging that the individual was covertly working on behalf of the CIA.

Another fake news peddler and propagandist account @NavCom24 also circulated the same claims in November 2024. He wrote, “Just in, an Indian diplomat has been arrested by Russian intelligence for spying on behalf of the CIA.”

The truth behind the claims about Indian diplomat, Fact Check 

As soon as the posts containing the claims made by propagandists came to our notice. Subsequently, we conducted research and analysis regarding the claims. We found that the claims are false and fabricated. 

To verify the claims made by the users. We performed relevant keyword searches but couldn’t find any credible sources supporting these claims. There is no confirmation from credible news outlets or official government sources. Similar unfounded allegations were propagated by these accounts in November 2024. Meanwhile, we found that India and Russia continue to strengthen their ties. India’s newest Russia-built warship is set to arrive in the country by mid-February 2024, showcasing the ongoing defence cooperation between the two nations.

Therefore, it is evident from D-Intent Data’s Fact Check that no Indian diplomat was arrested by Russian Intelligence.
