Fact Check: Teen’s hair gets entangled, scalp ripped off while riding on Ferris wheel in UP, propagandists circulate misleading claims 

A disturbing and sensitive video showing two individuals assisting a severely injured girl has been shared with false claims that BJP supporters raped a Dalit girl and shaved her head in India. However, D-Intent Data has found that these allegations are entirely false and fabricated. Reports indicate that the video captures a tragic accident at a village fair in Uttar Pradesh’s Kannauj, a 13-year-old girl, suffered severe injuries when her hair got entangled in a swing roller, ripping her entire scalp off.

Sharing the video on X (Formerly Twitter) propaganda account from Bangladesh @ladysikder wrote. “BJP goons raped a Dalit woman and shaved her head. It is not safe for minorities in India.”

The truth about the viral video, Fact Check 

As soon as the posts containing the sensitive video and claims came to our notice. Subsequently, we conducted research and analysis of the video and found that the video has nothing to do with molestation. 

To verify the claims made by the users. We performed a reverse image search of some key frames from the viral video using Google Lens. This led us to media reports containing the same visuals. We also ran a relevant keyword search and found multiple reports regarding the incident. According to reports(1, 2, 3), In a tragic incident at a village fair in Uttar Pradesh’s Kannauj, a 13-year-old girl, suffered severe injuries when her hair got entangled in a swing roller, ripping her entire scalp off. Hence, it has nothing to do with rape and crimes against women.

Therefore, it is evident from D-Intent Data’s Fact Check that the viral video was not related to rape and crimes against women.
